I ran an automated report about my site, and it tells me there are errors. What’s the deal?

Sunday, November 18th, 2018

Most of the automated reports are notoriously bad, and give many “false flags”. What they call an “error” may actually be a perfectly reasonable coding decision that was made by your web designer. Or they may flag something as “missing” that is completely irrelevant to your website. In other words, the automated tools have no sense of context or judgement. Don’t put much faith in them.

The other problem with automated reports is that they are purely focused on objective measures or checklists. They cannot actually tell you if your design is good or bad. They cannot tell you if you are communicating to your audience. They cannot tell if your website will be successful or not.

A better alternative is the Website Analysis from Net Elevation, which is not automated. It is a comprehensive review performed by a human being, who can make judgments and suggestions that make sense for your business.
